Why is “writing it down” so important?

Are you a person in the Fresh Produce industry who doesn’t write things down?

Do you think, “if you’re onto it, you shouldn’t need to write it down”?

Do you pride yourself on remembering everything to do?

I was reminded of this the other day when I placed an order for a few things, and it came back short.
I doubled checked the order. It aligned. It wasn’t the store. It was me. Oops!!

Oops weren’t my exact words at the time. I was furious.
“What an idiot! I can’t believe you forgot to order those. Why weren’t you organised?”

I was relying on my old belief of “if you’re onto it, you shouldn’t need to write it down”

My ‘writing it down’ practice had been forgotten and I stuffed up.

Why?
Because it’s something new.

Your brain likes to do things the way it always has.
Your brain will tell you it won’t be quicker to write it down.
Your brain doesn’t want to change. It’s comfortable doing what it’s always done.

Until ‘writing it down’ becomes the ‘new normal’ it will require conscious thinking.

I know. It takes time to write stuff down, but in the long run, it’s quicker.

If I get stuff out of my head, I’m so much more efficient.

Things get done quicker.
Things get done better.
Things don’t get missed.

Now, I’ve got to redo another order, wait another week for it to arrive and reconcile it all again.

Double the time!
